What is the difference between weather and climates? Well this question can be very confusing sometimes for small kids. Weather is day-to-day state of atmosphere at a place whereas climate can be defines as long term average of atmospheric conditions of that place. In other words, weather is what you see and find every day whereas climate is an average of that weather.Climate is usually an average of 30 years weather of a certain place.
There are 4 major seasons in a year. The seasons keep changing. Seasons are result of earths movement around the Sun & earths tilt on its axis. Sun never changes, but the movement of the earth around it leads to the differences in light and darkness as well as the temperature. The orbit the route which the earth follows while rotating around the sun,is elliptical.Due to this elliptical shape of the orbit, the earths distance from the sun keeps changing. At times ,the earth is closer to the sun whereas it is far away from it at other times. This causes in changes of temperature on the earth The other reason is the earths tilt on its axis. This tilt has two effects, one is on the angle of the earth towards the sun and second is the length of the day.For half a year the earth is tilted in such a way that North pole is more pointed towards the sun whereas in rest of the year South pole is pointed towards the sun. When North pole is facing the sun,the northern hemisphere gets more sunlight, the days are more warmer and longer and nights are shorter. There is summer in northern hemisphere. As the year progresses, the North pole gets away from direct exposure towards the sun and winter season sets in Northern hemisphere.Due to the same reasons, opposite effect happens in the southern hemisphere.
We have day and nights on earth because of the Earths rotation on its axis. Axis is an imaginary line passing through North and South poles of the earth. The Earth takes 24 hours to complete one rotation around its axis.Half the time i.e.for 12 hours one side of the Earth is facing the Sun,in this side there is Day whereas on the other side there is night. When we look up in the sky during different times of the day, we see that the sun is moving from one direction to the other. It rises in the East in the morning and sets in the west.In reality, the sun is not moving,it is our earth that is rotating around the sun, this rotation causes day and night as explained above
Latitude and longitude are very basic terms in geography. They help us to explain the location or position of a place on the globe. Latitudes and longitudes form a grid system on the globe,by knowing this we an easily find out any place on the earth. Latitudes are horizontal lines on the globe ,these are also known as parallels as they are at an equal distance from each other and never meet. Each degree of latitude is approximately 111 kilometers apart (69 miles),although there is little variation as the earth is not perfectly round as it is shaped slightly like an egg. The vertical lines on the globe are known as longitude. They all converge at poles and are widest at equator i.e.at the middle of the earth. They are also known meridians.Greenwich in England is at zero degree longitude. Degrees of longitude and latitude are divided into minutes and seconds.Every degree has 60 minutes and every minutes has 60 seconds.
Weathering and Erosion for kids
In this short animation video, kids can learn about some basics rules of road safety. They can also know meaning of some traffic signals .The importance on learning road safety rules can't be overemphasized as everyone has to be on road on everyday basis. There are some standard traffic rules across the world to smooth the traffic flow and for the safety of the travelers.Apart from that ,we need to use common senses for ours as well as others safety while travelling .Different traffic signals need to be followed even in the asence of the presence of a traffic police man.
In this animation video ,kids of kindergarten and elementary school can learn various types of land forms.Landforms are natural features of earth's landscape. There are different types of landforms like valleys, mountains, glaciers, delta, coasts, rivers, lakes and island etc.Type of a Landform is based upon a list of different features like slope, drainage, structure and process. Click on this video and watch the journey of two kids to each type of landform where all of these are explained and defined in an engaging manner.
Plant Adaptations :Meaning and Definition:Adaptations are special feature in plants and animals which help them to survive in the habitats they live in. We all have observe that we do not see all kinds of plants in all the places. For example an indoor plant can not survive in an outdoor environment similarly a plant which grows in tundra can not live in a desert. Over a long period, plants in a specific environment have developed special features which help them to live and grow in that particular habitat. For example a desert is a dry and hot place, there is s scarcity of water in a desert, plants in the desert have long roots so that they can reach deep and wide in the soil so as to get the water from deeper and wider area.Similarly desert plants don't have leaves so that there is no water loss through the leaves due to evaporation.Plants like cactus also have waxy surface so to reduce the loss of water.
In this animation video about seeds, kids can learn about different parts of a seed ,how a seed germinates and what are the minimum conditions for a seed to germinate and grow.It also teaches about meaning and different types of seed dispersal mechanisms. Seed dispersal can be defined as movement of seeds from parent plants to other places.Seed dispersal can be of various types - like dispersal by wind, dispersal by water, dispersal by wind etc.Different seeds have different shapes like hook type seeds, helicopter type seeds, these shapes help seeds in dispersal.
With help of this educational video, kids can understand all about the different phases/changes of the matter. It removes the confusion between states of matter and phases of matter. We need to keep in mind that matter is everything around us.Like explained in states of matter video, matter is anything made of atoms and molecules and matter is anything that has mass and takes up space. If you don't understand mass, think it as the amount of stuff in an object.Objects keep changing due to heat and pressure e.g.water can move in different phases like it changes to ice on freezing & ice can change back to water through heating due to evaporation.Similarly condensation, melting are also different phases of matter.
