Igneous Rocks-Definition,Meaning,Formation- Igneous means made of heat or fire.Igneous rocks are formed when molten lava comes out of earth's surface ,it cools and turns into solid rock.This process happens either inside the earth or over the earth. Most of the earth's crust is made up of igneous rocks.Igneous rocks are of two types -intrusive and extrusive.Granite is an example of intrusive igneous rock ,this is formed when lava is caught beneath the surface of the earth and cools down.Pumice rocks are examples of of extrusive igneous rocks ,which are formed when lava cools down above the surface of the earth in presence of air.These rocks can be differentiated based on their characteristics.
