Phases of Moon for kids

Follow Me on Pinterest

Lunar phase or phases of moon indicates the illuminated portion of the moon which a person observes from the earth. The revolution of moon around earth makes it appear like it is changing shapes. The phase or the shape of the moon depends upon its position in relation to the Sun and the Earth.

When moon size is increasing ,it is known as waxing phase while on the opposite ,when moon size gets smaller ,it is known as waning phase. As we all know that moon has no light of its own.It reflects the light of the sun.As the moon orbits around the earth, the sun lights up its part which is facing the sun.To the Sun, it is always full moon.New Moon is the name of the phase when you can not see the moon whereas Full Moon is the name given to the phase when you can see the full moon,as the name suggests.

In this animated video, kids can learn about the causes and factors of changing positions of the moon and various phases of it.
